OFFICE BUILDING RITTERSTRASSE 16 BERLIN
The office building Ritterstraße 16 is located in the rough and busy district of Berlin Kreuzberg. The visible facade made of prefabricated concrete frames covers each floor and intertwines them with one another. Thereby, the facade structure connects the different users of the house into a collective image. The building is designed as a closed block to the roadside and creates two intimate courtyards.
The facade is structured by loggias and terraces that create an outdoor area accessed for all users. Based on the typical business-buidling-style of Berlin Kreuzberg, the main entrance to the six-story building is accessed via a passageway to the courtyard. The structure of reinforced concrete creates open floor plans. Floor-to-ceilings windows of fine aluminum facade elements provide plenty of daylight.
The concrete core tempering in the exposed ceilings ensures the basic temperature. The office building is certified in DGNB Gold and is completely barrier free accessible. As an inner-city redensification, it uses the upcoming infrastructures and transport connections as part of the urban network. The connection to the district heat and a solar power system on the green roof ensure the energy supply of the building. Besides the external sun protection made of fabric, the deep loggias form a natural self-shading.
