commonmatters investigates a novel and conceptual form that emerges from an expanded thermodynamic concept itself. We challenge conventional architectural practices by researching how energetic flux and material thermal properties can be integrated seamlessly into building structures, their geometry, and occupant usage patterns to create more sustainable and prosperous living spaces. Through augmentation of dynamic tensions into an architectural response that are tailored to the local climate, commonmatters offers an alternative model for house design, a climatic responsive form of life.
Established in 2022 led by Sungwoo Jang, AIA, LEED AP, CSL. Sung holds a Master of Architecture degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and taught environmental systems at the College of Arts, Media, and Design at Northeastern University and led design studios at the Boston Architectural College. Before that, Sung spent over a decade in architectural practice.
