Prevalent
Prevalent is a technology and architectural company founded by Ben Berwick in 2017.
Raised on the east coast of Australia, Ben studied architecture at the University of Sydney, before heading to The University of Tokyo as a fellow, studying under Yusuke Obuchi and Kengo Kuma, to pursue a masters degree in Engineering, Architecture and Urbanism, in conjunction with residencies at major universities on the east coast of America. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA.
He has 4 years of commercial, and rather practical architectural experience in Sydney.
2 years experience on and off in Japans most prominent design architecture firms, SANAA, and Jun'ya Ishigami & Associates.
He did a stint at Jun Sato structural engineers, as the digital engineer on the Venice Biennale pavilion representing Japan, before landing at Sou Fujimoto Architects, Tokyo, for a year, later helping to found Sou Fujimoto Atelier in Paris for another year.
Now based out of Newcastle/Sydney, he accepts any project, any budget, providing the client is open minded and willing to explore unchartered areas of design. He's open to doing a residency in locations throughout the world, in order to understand the client, and context surrounding the build.
With private projects, he'd love to wrap a design around a client, like a painter does a portrait. For public projects, he's wanting to push the local environment for positive social change.
Prevalent is an architectural practice based in Newcastle, Australia.
