Kirkwood McCarthy is a London based architecture and design studio established by Fiona Kirkwood and Sophie McCarthy in 2013. Often working on constrained or otherwise overlooked sites, KM create buildings with highly resolved space planning that capture the best of the outdoors to optimise the internal experience. Consideration to daylight, views and materiality is brought together with features such as light wells, gardens and double height spaces to maximise both the spatial and social experience. This manoeuvre sets their work apart, creating voluminous and light filled environments that belies the footprint they occupy and delight the end user. The studio’s Australian/English heritage influences our design ethos. Projects encourage social interaction, engagement with the outdoors and utilise passive environmental design. The designers intuitive style balances high performance with an undertone of playfulness, making of a highly enjoyable and timeless architecture.
