Vigliecca & Associados is an architecture office formed by the founding partners Héctor Vigliecca & Luciene Quel as well as the associates Paulo Serra, Ronald Werner, Neli Shimizu and Caroline Bertoldi. It was founded in 1996 and has headquarters in the cities of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil. Develops architecture and urban planning projects focused on large scale urban endeavors. Present a wide range of projects, including social housing, sports arenas, institutional buildings and cultural centers as well as re-urbanization and requalification of public spaces. Has had an expressive participation in national and international competitions, receiving more than 50 awards. Amongst them are the 1º Prize in the National Library Foundation Building Annex Competition in Rio de Janeiro (2014); the 1º Prize for the Deodoro Olympic Complex for the Rio 2016 Olympics (2013) that will house 11 sports modalities; 1º Prize in the Public Open Bidding procurement for the Mooca-Vila Carioca Urban Operation Consortium (2012), one of the largest urban planning projects taking place in the city of São Paulo; and selection for the Morar Carioca (Morro dos Macacos/Parque Vila Isabel) and the Renova São Paulo Program (Perímetro do Morro do S4). Internationally, it was a finalist in the Grand Egyptian Museum(2003) in Cairo, being awarded an “Honorable Mention”, as well as for the National Library of Mexico (2002) in Mexico City. It was also awarded an “Honorable Mention” by the project for Plan Nueva Alameda Providencia (2015), in Santiago, Chile. Author of the Castelão Arena renovation Project in Fortaleza, which hosted the 2014 Brazil World Cup games and the 2013 Confederation Cup games. Castelão was considered an example of constructability and sustainability since it was the first stadium to be completed for the World Cup and the first Latin American stadium to receive a LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Extensively awarded, Vigliecca & Associados participated in the 2014 Venice Biennale with two projects – Parque Novo Santo Amaro V and Jardim Vicentina, both in critical areas in the city of São Paulo. Parque Novo Santo Amaro V joins the list of the “36 most impressive projects” in the Americas selected amongst the 255 nominees for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP), organized by the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago. Vigliecca & Associados has three published books: “Hypothesis on Reality” (2012), compilation of projects done for competitions between 1971 and 2011 by Héctor Vigliecca and team, “Arena Castelão – Governador Plácido Aderaldo Castelo” (2014), history, engineering and architecture of the arena, and “The Third Territory – Collective Housing and City” (2014), about social housing. This latest book was launched in United States in response to an invitation done by the University of Florida and American Institute of Architects (AIA). All of them are bilingual (Portuguese/English)
