Lincoln Place
The Lincoln Place project is for a small office building in central Dublin. The space was required as an extension to a solicitor’s office in an adjacent premises.
The site was a very narrow triangle- barely enough to build on; the brief called for a maximization of the office potential within the given area- resulting in four separate office floors with a single connecting circulation zone. The new building is connected through to the existing one at first floor level. The architectural response was to make a block with 100 per cent site coverage, the elevation matching the height of the existing Protected Structure. The new façade was finished in brickwork and powder coated panels, the four floors varied in the relationship of opes, panels and brick, creating a skin which reflects the general material and proportional character of its context. The particular site and form creates a wall of glass, metal and masonry which absorbs and reflects the evening light of the city.
The new space in Lincoln Place has changed the way the solicitors office located in the building operates immeasurably for the better; they have new, well-lit floorplates which, though narrow, divide up well for open plan and enclosed offices for separate divisions within the organization; the new is well-connected through to the existing building and allows for great flexibility in use. The new building fills a vacant corner which is highly visible in the city; it is modern though it fits in- it has a character that reflects the character of the place and the spirit of the solicitors practice.
