Cacticity
Dispersed through the city of Bilbao, 27 temporary gardens from different designers can be encountered this spring. Each garden has a surface of approximately 80 m2 and is framed by wooden sleepers.
In front of the Museum of Fine Arts, a cactus sculpture composed of more than 900 cacti can be viewed. The cacti are from the same species, but vary in height. The different heights are positioned according to an offset grid and arranged in such a way that they form an undulating carpet.
This non-contextual installation that vacillates in-between sculpture and garden also pays a tribute to single-stemmed cacti, nowadays mainly cultivated as voluminous multi-stemmed plants.
