BCN. HighDensity. Apartment Housing
apartment building with 42 dwelling units on the Avinguda Hospital Militar
The project is conceived as a chemical reaction, like a piece "hastening" the density of the neighbourhood on the project's plot. The intervention becomes the reflection of an urban operation of emptying and accumulating.
The plot is limited by its complex location, the consequence of its topography and of the existence of train tunnels. Because the plot is on a corner, the building looks like a slope but also an infrastructure.
These conditions on different scales, urban and local, make it look like a volume composed of three building that go up the slope and hold up the streets of Av. Vallcarca and Republica Argentina. The three building are the width of one flat (6m) and 70m long. The interblock spaces are the size of the distribution corridors, open from one end to the other and organised internally in a system of courtyards.
Its colours and texture are composed of a palette of satin and marbled grey, plain matt white and brown and black bricks. Yellow for the halls and the car parks, red and green for the slopes and the park.
The unusual long-distance wiews, unusual in Barcelona from interiors, like ship windows, are compensated for by a black frame, which allows changes to correct the volume, to align or hide parts of the building.
