Vasaparken
The renewal of Vasaparken strives to create an enduring urban space
for contemporary activities within the frame of the traditional park.
The restoration is one of the most profound renewals of public parks
that has taken place in Stockholm for decades and the first example of
a more radical transformation of an old 19th century park into a park
that meets today’s needs and requirements. An artificial grass lawn
combined with an ice field, new seat- and meeting places and a brand
new playground are additions in the park, additions formed after the
principal that each activity should have a clear architectural
expression. Vasaparken has evolved into one of Stockholm main venues.
Here thrive an urban park culture that is more common in the rest of
Europe but which is rarely encountered in Sweden.
Vasaparken was awarded the Siena Prize in 2007 and has been published
in a variety of magazines.
The project was implemented during
the employment for Grontmij AB.
