Masterplan for the Redevelopment of JCB's Heavy Products site
The masterplan is based on the following strategic design principles, all aimed at
strengthening Uttoxeter in every possible way to create an enduring legacy:
Reinforcing the Town:
Locating uses where they best fit the town, shaping streets to emphasise natural land
contours, making places and buildings of scale, character and material, which complement
the existing.
Connecting:
Maximising connections in every direction, for pedestrians and cars, to ensure the site is
properly stitched into the town.
Extending the Town Centre:
Extending the active heart of the town’s market and high street, with its retail ground floor
frontages and vertical mix of uses, southward into this new place of opportunity.
More Desirable Homes:
Extending the existing residential area southward, creating high quality family homes, all
with front doors on distinctive streets to maximise the benefits of town centre living by the
new park.
Strengthening the Edge:
Creating a strong and distinctive southern edge facing the park to strengthen the town’s
overall identity.
Generous Park:
Creating the most generous new park: a central Green pulled right up into the town centre,
meandering meadows along the Brook and a new Green Bridge linking to the south.
Innovation Centre:
A new landmark building; a gateway to the town and a new institution to nurture
engineering talent for future generations.
