The steep topography of the plot and also the compact condition of the urban plot of this Mediterranean city located in the north of Africa, conditions the new Library of Ceuta.
The library is organized in terraces placed on this slope and its basement level includes an Arab ruin of the XIV century that is transformed into an archaeological centre.
The lecture rooms are placed in several levels overlooking the ancient ruin, articulated with the levels of the site where different entrances are placed.
The compact folded volume has viewpoints towards the city by means of large windows cut up on the double façade of the Library. The final façade includes different layers: an interior one and an outer perforated metal one that interplay with the changing light conditions and that protects the inside from the sun and heat.
