Extension of a townhouse
The extension of this iconic 19th-century townhouse, typical of Bordeaux’s residential suburbs, opens generously onto its north-facing garden, blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors whilst bathing the living areas in soft, constant light.
The architectural intervention aims to reorganise the spaces facing the garden, restoring a sense of spatial clarity to the whole and maximising the range of uses.
The house’s new orientation towards its intimate patio is intended to give it the feel of a calm haven in the heart of the city.
The architectural design is bold and characterised by the use of materials that contrast with the historic Gironde stone. Large metal sliding frames allow the new building to blend into the reflections of the surrounding vegetation and the city.
