SKIPPERS’ HOUSE
Located at the heart of Lorient La Base, between the monumental, dark masses of the former submarine base and the open landscape of the harbour, the Skippers’house establishes a contrast: a light, horizontal building opening towards the sea.
Neither an office building nor a conventional sports facility, the project is a hybrid space specifically designed for the offshore sailing community. Skippers, coaches, technical teams and institutions share the same building, bringing together sports preparation, training, collective work, logistics and social spaces.
Organised over three levels, a structural concrete grid gives coherence and clarity to the diversity of spaces. Walkways, generous terraces and external staircases extend the programmed spaces and become places for exchange, encouraging encounters and shared uses.
A large workshop, covered by a timber roof structure, forms the other side of the project. Designed to accommodate racing yachts, it meets the demanding requirements of their preparation and maintenance, particularly for Ultim and IMOCA class boats.
