Mantova Caffè Sociale
The project involves the spatial renovation and the renewal of the furnishings of a historic venue located in the established urban fabric of the city of Mantua.
The intervention proceeds through the subtraction of certain pre-existing architectural elements within the shell, aimed at restoring a spatial configuration capable of re-establishing visual connections with both the city and the original volume of the space.
The counter is positioned at the center of the physical space, defining its hierarchy and circulation paths. It is crafted from Biancone di Verona marble, echoing the column bases and the ground connection of the neoclassical Teatro Sociale building—designed by architect Luigi Canonica—of which the café is an integral part.
The two custom-designed chandeliers manage both accent and ambient lighting through a combination of spotlights and bulb lamps. They take on the form of large candelabras, providing a spiritual and ancient nocturnal illumination.
