Casa GM
Casa GM is the complete renovation of an apartment in central Bari, designed for two professionals seeking a flexible home adapted to their daily routines. A system of three distinct thresholds — osmotic, sliding, and hinged — governs the transitions between rooms.
The clients wanted to restructure their apartment entirely, making it flexible and suited to the dynamic life of two professionals in central Bari. The initial condition required a delicate approach: preserving the proportions and layout of the existing rooms while transforming them through the placement of fixed, built-in furniture.
The living room, overlooking a tree-lined street, functions as the centre of the house — every other room is conceived as an extension of it. A central block accommodating the staircase, kitchen wall, and living room wall acts as an internal fulcrum around which the domestic spaces are organised.
Three types of passage define movement through the house: the transition between study and living room is osmotic, passing through a membrane; the one between living room and kitchen is fluid, through a sliding opening; in the sleeping area, access is through hinged doors. This calibration of thresholds is the result of observing the gestures the clients would perform in their daily domestic life.
