Productive Plateau - École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Clermont-Ferrand
The “Plateau productif” project is located at the heart of the National School of Architecture of Clermont-Ferrand (ENSACF), in a building with a unique history: a former modernist sanatorium from the 1930s, listed as a Historic Monument and renovated in 2015 by the Dubesset Lyon architectural firm.
The project arose from an in-depth survey conducted among all users—students, faculty, and administrative staff. From these discussions, a shared consensus emerged: the urgent need for computer spaces adapted to new teaching practices, to consolidate the two previously scattered reprographics services into a single location, and to create a dedicated area for model-making. This collaborative approach guided every design decision, ensuring that the project meets real and concrete needs.
The project’s goal was to transform cramped after-hours study rooms and an oversized, underutilized circulation area into an open, bright, and flexible digital space.
Designed as a modular space, it adapts to a variety of daily uses, such as open-plan work, model-making, computer classes, and document printing. But its design also allows the space to be completely cleared to host exhibitions, conferences, or end-of-semester juries. Here, flexibility is not merely a formal choice; it is the very heart of the program.
