Mampara
This project addresses the transformation and reinterpretation of spaces linked to memory. Over time, places acquire new meanings, inviting us to reconsider their role in the present.
The site originally housed a dwelling accessed through a mampara: a threshold space that offered a moment of transition and pause, an intermediate condition between before and after, between being seen and allowing oneself to be seen.
From this condition emerges a question: how can a new mampara be constructed today, this time as a collective space for the neighborhood?
The new building is conceived as a small landmark within the residential context. Under the shelter of a large showcase, it accommodates a space for commercial and social exchange. Its transparency allows it to engage directly with the public realm, inviting entry and participation.
In response to local regulations, the project adopts an isolated volume with a pitched roof, establishing a dialogue with the surrounding domestic typologies.
The building is designed as an adaptable infrastructure capable of accommodating changing uses over time, primarily related to commerce and office activities. A concrete frame structure enables flexibility on the ground floor, intended for public use, by concentrating services along a rear strip and freeing the main space.
As the only independent element, the staircase emerges as a spatial device. Through a double-height volume, it organizes circulation and connects to the more private program located on the upper level.
