Vores Sted (Our Place)
In the heart of Gellerup, Aarhus, and soon across 150 locations throughout Denmark, Vores Sted (Our Place) stands as a quiet tribute to the power of local community. Launched to mark the 25th anniversary of the philanthropic foundation Realdania, these pavilions offer simple, free-of-charge gathering spaces for the country’s many self-organized associations.
The architecture is intentionally modest, utilizing a familiar gabled silhouette that feels at home in the Danish landscape. Yet, its true value lies in a deep respect for resources. Rather than demanding new materials, the pavilions are crafted from what we already have: reclaimed timber from demolished buildings forms the skeleton, while repurposed fiber-cement panels from former mink farms provide shelter from above. Even the smaller details, the benches, doors, and flooring, give new life to discarded floorboards.
By offering four modest typologies tailored to different needs, Vores Sted doesn't seek to dominate its surroundings. Instead, it provides a functional, biogenic backdrop for people to meet, garden, and grow together, proving that meaningful architecture can be built with a gentle footprint.
