Renovation of an old workshop into a groundfloor apartment.
The original space was dark and damp, and the back courtyard, typical of this type of building present in El Cabanyal neighbourhood, was filled with small, utilitarian structures. Originally a workshop, the challenge was to transform it into a small apartment
.
Our main goal was to bring light into the new spaces without sacrificing privacy. To achieve this, the existing courtyard was restored and integrated into the living area, and a second patio was created next to the entrance, ensuring light and privacy for the bedroom and the hallway.
.
Both exterior spaces are connected through a traditional type of solid brick: the existent one was restored and reinforced in the back patio and the new one, locally produced, was laid without visible mortar joints and without bonding. This local material, linked to the existing structure, is the element that carries you from the façade to the main patio, linking past and present.
