RØD LAGERBYGNING
Rød Lagerbygning has been created through an extensive transformation of a historic listed industrial property from 1883, originally used for grain storage, warehousing, and workshop facilities – now converted into a 6,000 m² modern headquarters building.
We have taken a conservation-led approach based on the original masonry structure. A new brick facade has been added, designed in balanced harmony with the remaining original facade. Similarly, the building has been extended with a glass superstructure. The project stands as a thoroughly developed example of how a careful – yet comprehensive – architectural transformation can reinterpret and revitalise a building in balance with its context.
The building now forms a transition between the new rational architecture of Carlsberg Byen and the old villas, as well as the remaining industrial buildings from the historic Carlsberg site. The new facade incorporates the round arches from its own heritage facade as well as from Carlsberg’s research centre. The new upper floor unifies the composition and reflects, among other things, the design language of Carlsberg’s new headquarters.
The new glass extension draws light into the centre of the building, bringing new life to it as a workplace and commercial property, while enabling the full span of the wide warehouse structure to be utilised.
The transformation began in 2017, and we have therefore spent more than six years creating the result that stands today.
