FORO BUONAPARTE APARTMENT
The renovation project of this apartment, located in an elegant early 20th-century historic building in Milan’s Central Station district, focused on preserving the property’s original valuable features, with particular attention to enhancing distinctive elements such as the parquet flooring, stucco moldings, and terrazzo floors.
These details were carefully restored, preserving their authentic character and lending the interiors a timeless appeal. The intervention also included a functional upgrade of the service areas, adapting them to contemporary living requirements without altering the overall aesthetic. The former kitchen was converted into a study, the guest bathroom was transformed into the master bedroom’s walk-in wardrobe, while the original main bathroom—long, narrow, and impractical—was reconfigured into two separate spaces: one serving the master bedroom and the other functioning as a guest bathroom.
The apartment opens onto an entrance hall characterized by terrazzo flooring and a stucco-decorated ceiling, where an Art Deco console from the 1980s stands out, sourced by the owner from an antique market. This space acts as a transition between the study and the living area. The study, with terracotta-toned terrazzo flooring, maintains chromatic continuity with the bespoke furnishings and selected decorative elements.
The living area is divided into two zones by a portal: on one side, the custom-designed kitchen and dining area, and on the other, the living room. These spaces are enriched by original leaded glass windows. The kitchen, custom-designed, is the focal point of the first area: the contrast between the restrained neutral tones of the side columns and wall units is enhanced by walnut base cabinetry and a veined marble countertop. The layout of the kitchen explores depth, creating visual dynamism while softening the edges of the lower units to temper the geometry. Symmetry defines the space: from the living room perspective, framed by the portal, the kitchen appears as a theatrical backdrop. A Carlo Mollino table, paired with Gio Ponti’s Superleggera chairs and Carl Hansen & Søn’s CH24 Wishbone chairs, completes the setting.
On the opposite side, the white Le Bambole sofa by B&B Italia serves as the central element of the living room. Color plays a fundamental role in the interior design, as reflected in the carefully curated chromatic combinations throughout the space, thoughtfully selected by the owner.
In the bathrooms and the walk-in wardrobe, where the original layout was reconfigured, all surfaces were clad in resin. In these spaces, color becomes the defining feature.
The guest bathroom is entirely pink and, although it retains the same width as before, its proportions have been reworked. A circular shower defines the end of the space, while natural light, despite the absence of windows, was introduced through a porthole opening that allows light to filter in from the adjacent master bathroom.
The master bathroom was also entirely finished in resin, including the built-in bathtub, with yellow as the dominant color. The barrel-vaulted ceiling creates a scenographic atmosphere, while the mirror-integrated window enhances both natural light and the overall visual depth of the space.
