ADR 159
In Brussels, near Forest Park, the ADR159 project results from the transformation of a 90 sqm floor within a 1926 townhouse.
The project is structured around the requalification of simple spaces, highlighting transformations and the use of raw materials that give the apartment a distinct identity. Conceived as a laboratory of ideas, the intervention aims to present a showcase of clear and identifiable intentions, emphasizing a series of themes central to the architects’ approach.
The spatial reconfiguration is characterized by the affirmation of the apartment’s transverse layout, a continuity between living spaces typical of the architecture of the period, which also optimizes natural light by eliminating visual barriers. Secondary or more intimate spaces are arranged as an annex, distributed along an adapted corridor.
The singularity of the spaces is reinforced through a deliberate use of color. The monochromatic treatment of the kitchen, bathroom, and WC defines intimate alcoves, while the children’s bedroom is conceived as a composition of interdependent colors.
The project’s development also focused on furniture and micro-architecture. Most of the furniture was designed and/or crafted by the architects themselves, highlighting their sensitivity to design and objects.
The reuse of materials and objects already present within the project, or salvaged from other construction sites, is also an integral part of the overall design approach.
