At the edge of Sortino, where the historic cardo dissolves into a residual stair, a sculptural device stands rotated by 5.7 degrees to align with the distant Anaktoron, reclaiming the connection between the Baroque city of Sortino and Pantalica. The form emerges from a dual necessity driven by conflicting ergonomic demands: to propagate sound and to direct vision. Operating as a hybrid between a telescope and a megaphone, the structure directs the gaze, amplifies the voice and absorbs echo through its cork skin, transforming the stair from a descent into an open-air platea.
The body becomes orator, singer, storyteller, observer, and the urban void turns performative.
