Farmanieh Club
The renovation of the Farmanieh Club reimagines a landmark from the early 2000s, bridging the gap between collective memory and Tehran’s contemporary urban fabric. By preserving original proportions and introducing a rhythmic language of vertical lines, the project transforms a static facade into a dynamic interface of light and shadow. The use of dark cement creates a monolithic, solid volume, contrasted by strategic glass transparency at the entrance. This "re-creation" serves as a bridge between eras, evolving the building’s identity to resonate with the city’s modern pace while remaining loyal to its historical roots.
Farmanieh Club Facade Renovation: A Dialogue Between Eras
Built in the early 2000s, the Farmanieh Club has long stood as a local landmark, yet time had faded its presence into a static echo of the past. The renovation project focuses on the main facade and entrance—the primary point of urban contact—to re-establish the building’s identity within the contemporary fabric of Tehran.
The primary architectural challenge was to navigate the thin line between preserving collective memory and introducing a modern architectural language. While total demolition would have erased the neighborhood’s historical continuity, a superficial restoration would have failed to resonate with the present. The site required an intervention that respected its roots while speaking to the future.
The design adopts a dual approach: maintaining the iconic proportions and geometry of the original structure while layering it with a contemporary rhythmic language. This was achieved through the introduction of vertical lines and minimal detailing, transforming the once-silent facade into a dynamic interface where light and shadow actively engage with the surface. The entrance has been reimagined from a static boundary into a vibrant, inviting stage for the city.
Dark cement was selected as the primary material to create a monolithic and solid volume that effectively wraps the existing skin while providing a bold, modern aesthetic. To balance this solidity, glass was strategically used at the entrance to enhance transparency and invitation, while metal accents provide a refined rhythm throughout the vertical elements.
The result is a facade that speaks with a contemporary voice, harmonizing with the modern rhythm of the city while remaining deeply loyal to its historical roots. This project is not merely a renovation, but a "re-creation" of the Farmanieh Club’s urban face. It serves as a bridge between eras, preserving the building’s established identity and securing its place within the future narrative of the neighborhood.
