La Maison Pliée
La Maison Pliée is a wooden building located at the edge of a hamlet in the commune of Loctudy, in southern Finistère. It opens onto a preserved natural area, part of which is cultivated. On its plot, the house unfolds and folds to provide privacy from neighbouring buildings, creating spatial expansions conducive to use and taking full advantage of the orientation of the land. Between the house and the fence is a linear garden, an extension of the living space.
Its asymmetrical roof creates facades with varied expressions: to the west, a large section forms a generous roof overhang for domestic use; to the east, the facade rises to two levels facing the fields; to the north, the gable opens only slightly; to the south, like a face, the house turns towards the garden.
The ground floor houses the common living areas and a master bedroom suite. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, a bathroom and a dormitory.
The structure is made of solid wood panels (CLT), which also provide the interior finish. The orientation of the building and the design of the openings optimise solar gain. Heating is mainly provided by a wood-burning stove. The bio-based insulation is made of cellulose wadding and wood fibres. The light aluminium roof ensures good comfort in summer.
This project combines two ambitions: to design a house that is both passive and low-tech.
