Nursery
The new nursery in Jouy-en-Josas is located on the edge of a residential neighborhood, adjacent to the state forest. The site, marked by majestic trees and a gentle slope, previously hosted pavilions and outbuildings slated for demolition. The project was designed to preserve and enhance these natural qualities while providing a compact, functional facility that opens onto its surroundings.
Organized over two levels, the building accommodates the childminders’ relay and the Jardin d’Émilie on the ground floor, along with their ancillary spaces (offices, sanitary facilities, kitchen, technical rooms). On the upper floor, two staff apartments are oriented toward the forest, ensuring privacy and quality of life. A central hall distributes the spaces in a clear and legible manner, providing children with a well-defined circulation path, abundant natural light, and views of the greenery.
The architecture balances simplicity and identity: large glazed façades facing east and west, a combination of flat and sloped roofs, circular geometric elements, and concrete bands, complemented by natural and bio-based materials. The compact, orthogonal structure is softened by these forms, creating a welcoming and playful building.
The surroundings are primarily permeable, with pedestrian paths in exposed aggregate concrete weaving between the trees, while green roofs contribute to sustainable rainwater management. The early childhood center thus establishes itself as a new neighborhood facility, respectful of the landscape and designed for the well-being of children.
