Swimming Pool
In the heart of the Pays de la Loire region, the reconstruction of the Aizenay aquatic center proposes a calibrated renewal process. Rather than opting for complete demolition, the project preserves the original swimming pool and reinvents the surrounding volumes, establishing a new architectural ensemble rooted in the site’s memory.
At the core of the scheme is a large timber-framed hall. Around it, a sequence of shifted volumes houses the new program: a four-lane lap pool, a leisure pool, a wellness area (sauna and hammam), and an outdoor solarium terrace accessible during warmer months. Clad in wood and composed of low horizontal lines, the architecture engages in quiet dialogue with the surrounding landscape and the tall trees of the adjacent park.
Openings and visual transparencies guide the gaze toward the exterior, creating strong continuity between inside and out. The design offers generous interior light and unobstructed views while ensuring privacy and thermal comfort.
The building, certified HQE (High Environmental Quality), incorporates a 100 kWc photovoltaic roof installation and a planted slope that integrates the site into its topography. Thought as a civic facility for everyday use, the new swimming pool is efficient, accessible, and committed to long-term sustainability.
