Beech Houses Louisenlund
Located close to the Schlei near Fleckeby, the Louisenlund Foundation boarding school received two additional residential buildings, the Buchenhäuser, following the construction of the new learning and research center and the ring-shaped student residence in 2023:
The two new buildings for student apartments were constructed in the immediate vicinity of the Lindenhaus, a listed half-timbered building that originally served as an inn and is now also used as accommodation for students.
The new buildings are based on the Lindenhaus in terms of their volume and eaves and ridge heights, forming an ensemble with it around a tall red beech tree in the center of a communal square. Their rural, barn-like profile characterizes the independence of the new buildings.
While the two buildings with their common rooms and corridors face the central square, enlivening it with light and movement even in the dark evening hours, the living spaces face the surrounding picturesque landscape. In addition to the apartments for students, each of the two houses also houses a common room and ancillary areas, as well as a house parent's apartment.
The facade and roof are uniformly clad with red clay shingles, thus reminiscent of the property's origins as a clay factory. In addition, the “red houses” mark the entrances to the castle park on the Schlei in the larger spatial context of the “Försterhaus” and Akazienring.
