Montaigne School
The extension of the Montaigne School is rooted in the existing landscape while shaping a new, open and unifying centrality. Set within a residential context, the building adopts a balanced stance — both continuous with its surroundings and assertive in its public role.
On a narrow fifteen-metre strip between the neighbouring houses and the existing school, the project is set back to create a series of patios that soften the visual relationships and establish multiple connections with the garden. Every space benefits from natural light and a privileged dialogue with the exterior.
The new volume naturally extends the street and the existing building. By engaging with the site’s topography, it links the various levels without ever exceeding the height of the surrounding constructions.
Wood, concrete, terracotta, coloured linoleum and wood fibre compose a simple and durable palette, combining robustness with warmth. The architecture’s restraint embodies a reasoned environmental approach: the right material in the right place.
More than an extension, the project becomes a place of life and belonging — a discreet yet symbolic landmark at the heart of its territory.
