Art gallery Ceysson & Bénétière
In the heart of Lyon's historic center, between the Saint-Nizier Church and the Museum of Fine Arts, the project occupies a space steeped in history. Formerly the teaching premises of the Cours Pascal art school, housed in what was likely once a café-theater, the building features classical wooden moldings, including rosettes, pilasters, and cornices, as well as gilding and mosaics.
The challenge of the project was to create a contemporary art gallery within this historically significant space while highlighting the existing architectural elements of heritage value.
To achieve this, we opted for clean, contemporary designs, using noble materials such as brass, stone, and rosewood, which blend elegantly and harmoniously into the renovated space.
The resulting gallery offers a large exhibition space on Rue Longue, characterized by expansive display panels mounted on the historic moldings. Behind curtains that house the restrooms, technical facilities, and emergency exit, a double sliding door opens onto a bar. This bar is characterized by its clean lines and screens, which contribute to a timeless atmosphere.
The basement, with its restored stone walls and vaulted ceilings, also houses exhibition spaces.
Finally, connected to this space, an exhibition hall overlooking the adjacent Rue Pleney has also been renovated, as well as a room housing the technical areas (office, storage, etc.) in the heart of the block.
Artworks by Franck Chalendard and Frank Stella.
