La Cappella di Sant’Aquilino in San Lorenzo Maggiore a Milano. Storia e restauri, a cura di Antonella Ranaldi, edito da Silvana Editoriale
A photographic project documenting the 2021 restoration of the Chapel of Saint Aquilino in Milan, directed by architect Antonella Ranaldi. The work captures the rediscovery of the chapel’s rare Early Christian mosaics — a luminous testimony to the dialogue between time, matter, and sacred space.
In 2021 I carried out a photographic project dedicated to the Chapel of Saint Aquilino, within the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore in Milan, on the occasion of the restoration promoted by the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Metropolitan City of Milan, under the direction of architect Antonella Ranaldi.
The restoration revealed the extraordinary Early Christian mosaics, a precious and rare example of Late Antique mosaic art in Lombardy. My photographic work accompanied the process of rediscovery and enhancement of the chapel, documenting with sensitivity the material, the light, and the re-emergence of the original colours.
The images aim to convey the historical and spiritual depth of this space, where architecture, light, and time engage in a silent dialogue, revealing the continuity between past and present.
