LT2A - Youth Center
Located in the heart of the Pont neighborhood in Marcq-en-Barœul, the new Youth Center integrates seamlessly into a fabric of narrow brick terraced houses with colorful façades. The building fits delicately into this domestic landscape while affirming its role as a public building. Its pentagonal footprint of 550 m² develops five façades that engage with the surrounding streets and public spaces.
The single-storey volume is punctuated by roof projections that recreate a familiar profile, echoing the surrounding roofscape. The play of brick tones, from brown to beige, extends the materiality of the neighborhood while giving the project its own identity. Opening onto Rue Carnot, the Youth Center is marked by a recessed glazed façade that creates a generous and welcoming entrance sequence.
Inside, a clear and functional layout connects activity rooms, multipurpose spaces, and communal areas. Each volume asserts its own character through light, height, and acoustic quality. The material palette combines warmth and robustness: brick, concrete, wood, and linoleum define the interior atmosphere.
The adjoining school restaurant operates in direct connection with the neighboring schools, following the same principles of simplicity and efficiency. Finally, the hybrid structure — timber-frame walls, lightweight masonry, and terracotta — reflects a strong environmental commitment, reducing the project’s carbon footprint : the right material in the right place. The project forms a small civic ensemble, rooted in the neighborhood’s scale and everyday life.
