OVERTURE
The project redefines an existing apartment through the extension with an adjacent unit, located on the same floor of the building. This intervention not only increases the available surface but, above all, reorganizes the internal functions, creating a distribution that better responds to the needs of contemporary daily life. The new portion, facing south and therefore naturally brighter, is designated as the living area, while the original spaces are transformed into the sleeping quarters, ensuring a clear functional separation and greater living comfort.
At the core of the project is an aluminum-clad monolith that acts as the pivotal element between the two units, serving both as a distributive device and a spatial filter. On one side, the volume integrates the kitchen and storage spaces, while on the opposite side it accommodates two home office stations. Within its thickness, a new bathroom is incorporated, making the monolith a complex architectural element that organizes and defines the surrounding environments.
The dining area is defined by a recessed niche, furnished with a custom-designed table and bench, emphasizing its intimate and enclosed character. In the kitchen, a sculptural element in Verde Alpi marble functions as an island, playing both a functional and aesthetic role: on one side, it separates the kitchen from the living room, while on the other, it becomes a sculptural feature that enriches the spatial experience. The atmosphere is further emphasized by custom-made lighting fixtures in stainless steel and Verde Alpi marble, establishing a dialogue with the materials and reinforcing the overall coherence of the project.
The bathroom is fully clad in ceramic tiles and illuminated by a dimmable backlit ceiling, creating a soft and enveloping atmosphere. A curved aluminum blade recalls the material of the external monolith, establishing material continuity within the project. The floor, made of custom tiles with inlays of Verde Alpi marble, completes the space with a distinctive and refined detail. The result is an environment suspended in time, conceived as a place of intimacy and well-being, dedicated to personal care.
The island, designed specifically for the project, serves as both a defining element and a spatial divider between the kitchen and the living area. Entirely clad in Verde Alpi marble, each face is composed of a single slab, highlighting the purity of the material and the continuity of its natural veining.
