Headquarters of RTE Méditerranée
The new headquarters of RTE enjoys a strategic location in the Quartier des Fabriques in Marseille, positioned between the city center and the northern districts.
At the intersection of the major thoroughfares of Rue de Lyon and Avenue du Cap Pinède, it stands as one of the symbols of the renewal of these formerly peripheral and isolated neighborhoods, which, as the Euromed 2 project advances, are being reintegrated into a revitalized and intensified economic hub.
To the north, the building rises eight stories high, forming a first slope reaching 30 meters, thus shielding the heart of the block from the harsh mistral wind.
To the south, the structure unfolds into wide, accessible, and sheltered terraces. Protected from the northern façade, the inner courtyard recalls the Mediterranean restanques and valleys—shielded from the wind, bathed in sunlight and coolness, and open to both employees and residents of the block.
The îlot phare is the allegory of this distinctive geology that defines its morphology. Its northwest façade rises as a mineral wall facing the mistral and sea spray, then gradually descends southward into terraces and slopes. These forms create plateaus and sheltered terraces oriented to the south, conducive to life and collective use. This morphology thus sanctuaries a sunny, preserved, and fertile inner courtyard, dedicated to communal life on the various terraces and within the garden.
The project aspires to foster a new Mediterranean way of life: a symbiosis between mineral and vegetal, interior and exterior, geology and architecture.
The very morphology of the project embodies a dialogue between the site’s security requirements and the pursuit of quality of life and well-being at work, which lies at the heart of the design of its spaces.
RTE is a strong urban landmark, a vertical symbol of this transformation of the ground. It stands as a geological emergence, a kind of rock formation, integrating all the site’s constraints and assets.
