SALLE DE CONVIVIALITE
In the heart of the Périgord Noir region, in Mauzens-et-Miremont, between vast wooded areas and farmland, the site is located on a plateau overlooking the vast landscape. In this small town of 289 souls, this community hall is designed as a village-scale facility and a catalyst for social cohesion. The project reinterprets the vernacular architecture of barns, in a structuring composition, considering the open landscape of the plateau as a gift.
Respecting the proportions of the local constructions, the building develops through successive shifts in three volumes. This strategy of volumetric offsets, visible on the south side of the site, avoids any monumentality in this peaceful landscape. The central part, which houses the main hall, opens onto a sheltered terrace; while the two secondary volumes, housing technical rooms and a reception lodge, delineate a forecourt to the north. This spatial arrangement responds to various usage situations, sometimes festive, cultural, or civic.
The architectural style reinterprets rural morphologies with precision and modernity: flat tile roofs, slender proportions, generous openings. The details are carefully crafted. The interior joinery allows visitors to sit, contemplate, and become one with the space. The grammar is simple, designed to last.
The wooden construction, the straw insulation from local agriculture, and the expertise mobilized with local businesses affirm this desire for anchoring and chosen sobriety. This place embodies contemporary rural architecture serving the community, where the notion of the common good takes on its full meaning.
