Conversion of a 1960s house
Once the initial challenge of preserving as much of the existing structure as possible had been met, the focus shifted to accentuating the architectural qualities and implementing new spatial aspects in a simple but effective way. The result is a house that does not deny its historical origins, but rather recognises, counteracts, and continues the themes of its architectural heritage.
Located in a garden settlement, the house is a densification project from 1968, situated in the second row in Gauting near Munich. The surrounding area is characterised by a symbiotic relationship with the fores t, specifically in this case involving an interaction between the house and the garden, and the protected tree population. This integrity is reflected in the floor plan, which has been deliberately reinforced through precise interventions. The holistic conversion necessitates an interdisciplinary approach, incorporating architectural perspectives, with the objective of facilitating a contemporary approach that preserves the building's integrity to the greatest extent possible. In this way, valuable aspects of 1960s architecture are preserved.
