Housing and Activities in Saint-Mathieu
This urban complex consists of six buildings whose volumes are designed to respect both the surrounding urban scale as well as rural setting. Surrounded by hardscaped public spaces, the complex is organized around a central landscaped area. On the street and square sides, the presence of a prominent concrete base reinforces the project’s urban character. On the garden-facing side the apartments are elevated by terraces, which allows the architecture to harmonize with nature while nonetheless ensuring the residents’ privacy.
In response to specific programmatic needs, the buildings adopt a curved form, enabling refined and mixed-used typologies. Crossing apartments are located at the center of each block, while the rounded ends host dual-aspect corner units. The complex offers a mix of subsidized, mid-market rental and condominium housing-ranging from two- to six-room units-complemented by ground-floor retail and shared community spaces.
The project’s open-block layout and carefully considered materiality foster a relaxed urban atmosphere that mediates between nearby large-scale housing developments and a more intimate, village-like context. To further anchor the development in its landscape, views toward the broader surroundings are preserved and the site’s natural topography is respected.
