Renovation of the Saint-Jouin-Bruneval gymnasium
Overlooking the sea from the heights of the Cap d’Antifer cliffs, the Saint-Jouin Bruneval gymnasium, built in the 1980s, had not undergone any major renovation until now. The aim of the renovation project is to modernise the facility to meet current requirements in terms of energy performance and user comfort.
The work mainly concerns the building envelope. A new envelope is being added to the existing façades, providing thermal insulation from the outside and correcting air and water tightness defects. The new depth of the façade provides seating for spectators and integrated storage.
The access to the gymnasium, which was previously difficult to identify, has been made clearly recognisable by the creation of a vast canopy. This structure, which is independent of the original building, fits into the thickness of the new façade, and affirms the main entrance to the facility from the public space.
Inside, the reorganisation of the ground floor creates a new entrance hall with direct access to the changing rooms and sports hall. Upstairs, the openings from the dojo to the outside have been considerably enlarged, providing generous natural light. An interior window has also been created, providing a visual link between the dojo and the sports hall below.
