The Miquel Blay boulevard (“El Firal”) and Bisbe Guillament boulevard (“El Firalet”) are iconic central spaces in Olot, housing significant buildings like the City Hall and Main Theater. Historically a gathering place, “El Firal” hosts key events such as the weekly market and the “Festes del Tura,” but over time, its versatility has been reduced due to inconsistent urban elements. The proposal seeks to restore functionality by defining the limits of both boulevards while maintaining permeability. Road traffic is minimized, and a new traffic strategy improves the area’s walkability.
The project unifies the space through material choices and lighting while resolving topographic discontinuities with a new central plaza. This plaza enhances public use by providing open areas for events, a stage, and children’s play spaces, making it a more adaptable and inclusive urban environment.
