CENTRO SPORTIVO SAN PIETRO
A few kilometers from the shores of Lake Garda, nestled within the contours of the morainic hills that characterize the Upper Mantuan region, lies the town of Castiglione delle Stiviere.
The new locker room facility, built to support the San Pietro sports center, is located in the locality of the same name, at the foot of the hillside that borders the northern edge of Castiglione’s urban area.
The municipality’s intent was to enhance the potential of the existing sports center by upgrading it through the construction of a new regulation-size artificial turf pitch, complete with a locker room facility designed to accommodate the youth football activities of F.C. Castiglione.
The new structure is a single-story building with a compact form and a single sloping roof. Inside, it features a simple and rational layout, with a spatial organization carefully designed to ensure optimal usability for users and minimal maintenance requirements.
The building’s architectural elements flow into one another, as if attempting to draw the profile of the structure with a single continuous line. Certain elevated masonry edges extend BM.AA beyond the main volume, seeking to reestablish a dialogue with the surrounding built environment. In this way, the building becomes part of the city's architectural fabric, thanks to these masonry outlines that orient and connect the access routes to and from the sports center.
The theme of monochromy underscores the abstract plasticity of the building, which is characterized by recesses, setbacks, and overhangs. Sunlight, as it moves across the facades, interacts with the dark-toned paint and finishes—brightening or deepening their appearance depending on the time of day—offering the image of a vibrant, ever-changing building. In this same spirit, the interior spaces emerge at dusk in negative. Thanks to the carefully designed evening lighting, the building reveals itself, narrating the activities taking place within the sports center.
