Liberty complex of Sant'Orsola, Treviso
A stimulating challenge.
Restoration and expansion of the liberty complex of Sant'Orsola, Treviso
Juxtaposing a new architecture with a historic-monumental Art Nouveau building in the historic center is a stimulating challenge. The Art Nouveau building, protected by law, has been restored and has maintained its internal distribution, while the buildings that were added in later periods, following only functional logic, have been the subject of a total volumetric reorganization after careful formal and aesthetic research. The architectural composition is based on the search for the limit that allows the new architecture to be juxtaposed with the existing one with respect and to find a balance between hierarchies in comparison. That limit was identified already with the first study sketches that gave life to a single, decisive and clean sign, easily readable in plan and elevation starting from the glass wall of over 8 meters with which the new volume approaches the historic facade. This solution generates a relationship of continuity between interior and exterior and its elegance is also reflected in its functionality, in fact it hosts the connection between the existing and the new: the double height of the entrance and the aerial walkway. The approach is reflected at all scales of the project, in the research of materials and in the study of details
