Tectoniques has completed the restructuring of the Maryse Bastié lower secondary school, in Dole, a town in the eastern French department of Jura, in a suburban fabric blending facilities, a business zone, as well as flats and single-family homes.
This lower secondary school reflects the ordinary and widely criticized heritage of the 1970s. Initially, it consisted of several buildings organized in a grid system relative to its surroundings. Instead of starting from scratch, the project approached it as a valuable resource and heritage site to be preserved. The new layout introduces a hierarchy among the previously equal buildings, resulting in a more cohesive and harmonious design.
