LONG HOUSE
Long House is located in an area where the line between rural and urban blurs, a characteristic of the suburban region of Córdoba City. The plot has typical dimensions for this area: 50 m deep by 25 m wide. The project utilizes the length of the lot, defining a structure with robust brick walls and a lightweight metal roof that interacts with nearby sheds and infrastructure located a few kilometers away.
Typologically, Long House draws inspiration from many other long dwellings throughout universal history. Spaces are arranged in a linear sequence, housing the main uses of the house in the center of the nave, while service and storage areas are located on the sides. This allows for an open and fluid layout throughout the entire length of the project, with all spaces opening directly onto the patio to gain natural light and ventilation.
In structural terms, the walls not only support the roof but also serve a hydraulic function by channeling rainwater from the sloped roof to the U-shaped concrete beams, integrating with the thickness of the walls.
The walls of Casa Larga play a fundamental role as they house - or hide - specific programs such as closets, bathrooms, kitchens, and technical spaces while acting as climatic barriers, creating a thick edge between interior and exterior.
The choice of local materials such as brick for the walls and the low-cost, zero-maintenance roof not only responds to practical and economic considerations but also reflects our commitment to operating within the possibilities offered by the environment in both material and technical terms. Building in this way is for us a decision of common sense, integrating local construction tradition with a contemporary vision of habitable space.
