The Territorial College of Architects of Valencia (CTAV) presents “El Piset,” a space designed for young and newly licensed architects, standing as an example of collaboration and creativity in contemporary architectural design. This project responds to the need for a dynamic and functional place that fosters the exchange of ideas and connections among the future protagonists of the architectural scene.
.
The design process of “El Piset” was conceived from the outset as a collaborative exercise. Future users of the space were invited to actively participate in defining their needs and aspirations. This participatory approach made it possible to identify the most appropriate uses, establish the best management strategies, and define the formalization of the space in a way that meets both functional and aesthetic expectations. The success of this project lies in the formation of a team where respect for individual contributions has been a constant, achieving a balance between collective ideas and proposed architectural solutions.
.
The main concept of the intervention is based on creating a strong architectural gesture that defines the entire space to be renovated. This gesture materializes in a large central resting element, conceived as an oversized sofa, which not only organizes the space but also offers exceptional versatility. This central piece of furniture acts as a hierarchical axis, allowing the space to be easily and quickly transformed to accommodate a wide variety of uses, such as a workspace, classroom for 25 people, projection room, exhibition area, and more. Flexibility is an inherent characteristic of the design, addressing the need for young architects to have a place adaptable to their multiple activities.
.
The structure of the central furniture is complemented by other carefully selected elements to maximize the functionality of the space. Rolling tables, lightweight stackable chairs, contribute to the space's ability to adapt to different configurations. Additionally, a temporary storage system has been incorporated, which not only meets practical needs but also plays an active role in transforming the space. This storage solution is realized through rolling panels that serve a dual function: on one hand, they act as whiteboards and projection screens, and on the other, they create a workshop area that houses the equipment needed for activities, such as printers, plotters, projectors, and 3D printers.
.
The spatial configuration of “El Piset” also intelligently addresses the needs of CTAV staff. At one end of the space, a dining area has been arranged, connected to the existing office space, which has been preserved. During regular hours, this dining area transforms into a meeting room equipped with a large fixed table, which can also be used as an additional resource for other activities. To ensure visual privacy when necessary, a curtain system has been included, allowing the space to be divided flexibly.
.
The design of “El Piset” also places special emphasis on materiality and creating a welcoming atmosphere. The selected materials reflect a combination of functionality and warmth, aiming to balance operational efficiency with an environment that inspires creativity and collaboration. The central sofa, with its soft texture and ergonomic design, becomes a prominent visual and functional element, inviting spontaneous use and social interaction.
.
The development process of this project has not only resulted in a unique and versatile space but has also consolidated a collaborative work model that can serve as a reference for future architectural projects. Including future users as an integral part of the design process ensures that the space not only meets their current needs but can also adapt to future ones.
.
With “El Piset,” the CTAV reaffirms its commitment to supporting new generations of architects, providing a space that promotes creativity, learning, and professional connection. This project serves as a reminder that architecture is not just a means to solve spatial problems but also a powerful tool for fostering collaboration and innovation.
.
In conclusion, “El Piset” is not just a physical space but a concept embodying the values of flexibility, inclusion, and creativity. It represents a place where young architects can develop their ideas, connect with peers, and build a solid foundation for their professional future. This project demonstrates that, when working as a team and valuing the contributions of all participants, it is possible to create spaces that truly reflect the needs and aspirations of their users.
