Community Centre of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Zurich-Schwamendingen
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the largest Mormon denomination. It was founded in the USA in the 19th century.
The Latter-day Saints are one of the few Christian groups that do not use the cross as part of their regular worship and do not display it on their buildings.
Latter-day Saint architecture has long used a single spire on their church buildings, which is clearly identifiable by its design. This spire symbolises the resurrection of Christ from the dead, the hope that comes with it and the upward striving towards God.
Since the 1980s, Schwamendingen has transformed itself from an unattractive area of prefabricated concrete blocks into an upcoming district. Investments in infrastructure, new housing projects and green spaces have improved the quality of life. Today, Schwamendingen is popular with families and many commuters, and now it is diverse and vibrant, in part due to the affordable rents by Zurich standards.
