Double kindergarten
Competition double kindergarten Kugelwis, 3rd place
A rectangular single-storey building with a striking shed roof organises the required room programme at ground level in a logical arrangement. The children reach the arcade, which provides access to the two kindergarten classes, via a spacious covered forecourt. The new building is designed as a timber construction – a clear, compact structure with a simple, efficient load-bearing system.
The roof shape of the new building is reminiscent of typical factory buildings from the region. The daylight situation is optimised by the east-west orientation of the kindergarten rooms. The south-facing window is sufficiently shaded by the existing vegetation. The shed roof, which extends across the entire width of the building, provides the rooms with soft and even daylight from the north. Sliding wall elements can be used to create cross-group room continuums and deliberate spatial divisions. With their generous window areas, the east and west façades maximise the experience of the garden spaces in front and intensify the idea of flowing spaces.
