CASA RIVET
The flat is located in a typical 19th century "Corrala" in Lavapiés. A large courtyard with a corridor leading to the different flats, all of which are very small. One of these houses is the Casa Rivet, which had its practically original distribution, a series of concatenated rooms with a small kitchen and a toilet. The interesting thing about the house is that its high ceilings and east-west façades gave it great potential. In addition, the balconies overlooking the Plaza de Agustín Lara provide great views, not only over Lavapiés but also over the Madrid skyline.
The project revolves around two basic concepts, spaciousness and identity. Firstly, the aim was to achieve the greatest possible sensation of spaciousness without the flat being a single space. The project consisted of simplifying the existing to the minimum, right down to the structure, in order to inhabit this void by means of the distribution of objects that act as server spaces (yellow box and bathroom box) distributed throughout the space.
The yellow box contains all the wardrobes in the home and the kitchen, acting as a separator between the living room, bedroom and kitchen. On the other hand, the glassbricks box contains the bathroom, whose translucency and the fact that it does not reach the ceiling serve to reinforce this concept of spaciousness.
Secondly, the choice of the materials used in the shell of the house reinforce the idea of a typical Spanish identity.
Hydraulic flooring, exposed wooden structure, lime morter, etc... In contrast, the two furniture boxes are represented by contemporary materials and colours such as glassbricks or yellow melamine wood.
