Johannesforum
In the center of Wendlingen, the Johannesforum has emerged as a project where inclusion is not only desired but actively practiced. The building, utilized by two developers, is open and transparent – both inside and outside its walls. Today, next to the new building designed by Drei Archi-tekten, only the bell tower of the
Evangelical St. John's Church, built in 1960 according to the plans of architect Ernst Rohrberg, still stands.
In the middle of the town center, the new community center of the Evangelical Church Community Wendlingen and a residential project for people with disabilities and day care by Bruder-hausDiakonie Reutlingen are spread over three floors. The visible differentiation of the two uses is evident in the design of the two
individual structures offset from each other:
For the facade of the community center, 300 square meters of the natural stone facade made of Gönninger Tuff Stone from the former St. John's Church were reused. The residential building is presented as a simple structure with a brushed plaster finish. At the intersection of the two building parts is the "Forum of Opportunities," whose glass display window opens the house to the city, thus making an important contribution to the participation of the city society.
Inside, the representative vertical circulation, a white-paneled staircase, connects the entrance area with the upper floors. The heart of the Evangelical Church Community is the two-story community hall which has been developed to open up to the foyer, allowing for maximum flexibility. The BruderhausDiakonie rooms
are accessed via the central staircase and a separately accessible second staircase. On the second floor, there is a roof terrace serving as an extended community space. It forms the upper closure of the shared foyer area and is enthusiastically embraced by all user groups.
