Casa en Lago Rupanco
The site is located on the edge of Lake Rupanco, three hours from the city of Puerto Montt in southern Chile, within a lush forest of coigües and other species with views and access to the eastern beach of the lake.
The assignment consisted of a home for two friendly families that would allow them to escape from Santiago and share stays in summer or winter. For this purpose, a two-level "butterfly" house scheme was conceived. In the first, a large living room, dining room and kitchen with views of the forest and the lake with sliding windows that allow the house to be completely opened to the treetops that are a couple of meters away and that is spatially complemented by the loft. from the second floor, giving a feeling of double height. A piece of wooden furniture separates the hallway that longitudinally connects the house with the private areas towards both ends of the house. On the second floor, the loft is illuminated by a continuous skylight and connects to the suite bedrooms.
The project was designed from a construction system in accordance with the experience of local builders and the pandemic context that coincided with the construction development stage of the project. A main frame in sawn wood was then considered that is repeated throughout the house and can be seen in its cross sections, which is complemented by traditional wooden partition structures. The interior of the house is covered in pine wood with a white lead finish on walls, ceilings, floors and furniture. In this way, it is possible to have a warm and monochromatic interior that contrasts with the immediate nature in which the house is immersed. On the outside, 8,000 eucalyptus tiles cover the volume on 3 of the 4 facades (including the roof), leaving only the facade facing the lake with sliding windows. An effort was made to intervene as little as possible in the natural environment so that the house was as close as possible to the existing trees. The exterior of the house is colored with the shadows of the trees mixed with the dry and wet tones of the tiles that will change their appearance over time.
