HOUSE DJURÖ
House Djurö is a carefully designed and crafted cast in situ concrete building, perched on a cliff overlooking the Stockholm Archipelago. The building is defined by its two flanking walls. Extending beyond the corners of the building, they help express the direction of views from the entrance towards the sea. while simultaneously providing additional privacy towards the neighbouring properties. Two large openings and an expressed rainwater spout define each side elevation.
The entrance is set in under a large pergola, which frames and defines both the entrance as well as the outdoor dining area which connects to the kitchen via sliding doors. All windows, doors, and additional inset panelling is made with a stained spruce timber. The same treatment is used for the additional buildings on site, such as a guest house, a garage and gym, and a small technical shed.
Overlooking the sea is a large concrete terrace, which extends the concrete flooring of the main building out towards the view. A frameless glass balustrade creates an almost invisible boundary between the dwelling and the landscape beyond. A custom-built pool occupies a large part of the terrace, with direct access from both the living room and the master bedroom.
Internally, the material palette is simple but timeless, with cast concrete walls and floors, complemented by stained oak panelling and joinery, and a stainless-steel kitchen that adds a utilitarian and industrial element to the interior. All interior doors are custom made to extend fully from floor to ceiling.
